Bethel Park residents should expect to see crews start road repairs in May. Council recently awarded a $1.53 million contract to Mele & Mele & Sons of Braddock to pave 23 roads. They were the lowest of six bidders. Councilman Joe Consolmagno said that company has worked for Bethel Park the past three years. “We’re extremely satisfied with the work that they have done,” he said. “They do an excellent job. They do the paving, and then we have another company that comes in and does the landscaping. That program has worked out real well.” Stacey Graf, director of engineering, said Bethel Park is in year three of a five-year paving plan designed by RoadBotics. ....
Highbury Leisure Centre, which opened back up this week after a refurb - Credit: Google Islington’s indoor leisure facilities and five libraries have reopened, as part of the UK’s gradual easing out of coronavirus lockdown restrictions. Outdoor sports facilities in parks opened on March 29, and now leisure centres and gyms have followed suit, including the newly refurbished Highbury Leisure Centre and pool. Archway Library, Central Library, Finsbury Library, N4 Library and West Library have also opened for browsing, and library users can book PCs and study space. Everyone is asked to wear a face covering and to sanitise their hands on entry, and library staff will take additional safety measures, like quarantining returned items before replacing them on shelves. ....

The project, GFWC Loves Libraries, One Book at a Time, began in February during National Library Lovers Month. Participating libraries are Westerly Library and Wilcox Park, Maury Loontjens Memorial Library in Narragansett, Cross Mills Public Library in Charlestown, South Kingstown s Peace Dale Library, and Willett Free Library in North Kingstown, but all books will be available to Rhode Islanders through the Ocean State Interlibrary Loan system. The donated books have positive female characters and emphasize diversity. ....
