Deschutes Public Library District Board chooses architects for new central library, other projects BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) The Deschutes Public Library District Board on Wednesday selected the architectural team of The Miller Hull Partnership and Steele Associates to design bond-funded construction projects. The projects include a greatly expanded Redmond Library and a new central library, as well as extensive renovations and updates for libraries in Downtown Bend, East Bend, La Pine, Sisters and Sunriver. “We are eager to bring to life the voters’ vision of designing and updating library spaces throughout Deschutes County, and The Miller Hull Partnership and Steele Associates are poised to make that vision a reality,” said Library Director Todd Dunkelberg. “Both firms have extensive experience in sustainable design and are steeped in the Pacific Northwest experience. Islington s leisure services and libraries start re-opening

Highbury Leisure Centre, which opened back up this week after a refurb - Credit: Google Islington’s indoor leisure facilities and five libraries have reopened, as part of the UK’s gradual easing out of coronavirus lockdown restrictions. Outdoor sports facilities in parks opened on March 29, and now leisure centres and gyms have followed suit, including the newly refurbished Highbury Leisure Centre and pool.  Archway Library, Central Library, Finsbury Library, N4 Library and West Library have also opened for browsing, and library users can book PCs and study space.  Everyone is asked to wear a face covering and to sanitise their hands on entry, and library staff will take additional safety measures, like quarantining returned items before replacing them on shelves.

Author seeks help from South Coast residents for mystery

Author Ellie Alexander is looking for help from South Coast residents in writing a mystery based in North Bend. The North Bend Public Library will host a Zoom session at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, for local residents to help Alexander piece the story together. Alexander, who lives in Ashland, is the author of several cozy mystery novels, including the Bakeshop mysteries set in Ashland and the Sloan Krause series set in a beerhouse in Leavenworth, Wash. She is known for using local settings in her stories and also enjoys engaging with her readers. During the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, she crowdsourced a mystery with readers who followed her social media accounts.
