Columbia Public Schools Foundation announces largest donation in history

CPSF announced a $1 million donation from a former Columbia Public Schools teacher. COLUMBIA - The Columbia Public School Foundation announced a $1 million donation from the estate of Kathryn Kay McLeod, a former CPS teacher.  The CPSF is a private foundation established by community volunteers and governed by a board of directors. The goal of this foundation is to enhance education in the district. Since the foundation started in 1996, it has awarded more than $1.4 million to projects that support teachers and students in all of the district. This $1 million donation is the largest gift in the foundation s 25 year history.  Cindy Mustard, the President of Columbia Public Schools Foundation, announced the gift Wednesday afternoon at Jefferson Middle School. 

Noelle Gilzow elected as president of Columbia education association

I really have great faith in Noelle, Steinhoff said. Gilzow has taught 27 years, all of them at Hickman. She joined the union shortly after starting but said she became more active five or six years ago, with a focus on the union s political action committee. I found the more I was involved, the more I got from the membership, she said. I feel like it s a big job and I m filling big shoes, Gilzow said. I m glad and grateful for the team Kathy has built. Steinhoff has been a teacher for 33 years, all in Columbia schools, including what was then West Junior High School and Jefferson Junior High School and the past eight years at Hickman. She has been a union member from the beginning.
