Gilzow has taught 27 years, all of them at Hickman. She joined the union shortly after starting but said she became more active five or six years ago, with a focus on the union s political action committee. I found the more I was involved, the more I got from the membership, she said. I feel like it s a big job and I m filling big shoes, Gilzow said. I m glad and grateful for the team Kathy has built.
Steinhoff has been a teacher for 33 years, all in Columbia schools, including what was then West Junior High School and Jefferson Junior High School and the past eight years at Hickman. She has been a union member from the beginning.
