Eden carers are creating emergency plans for carers week

Carers Week has begun to help all those who care for loved ones.
Running until June 13 the annual campaign seeks to raise awareness for caring, highlighting the challenges unpaid carers face and recognising the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
This year’s theme is to ‘Make Caring Visible and Valued.’
Dani Leslie, Chief Officer at Eden Carers, said: “Every year we urge the people we support to write a Carers’ Emergency Plan. That’s all the information that would be needed if the carer becomes acutely ill / has an accident or has to go into hospital at short notice. ....

Workington Town Council appoints its new mayor

WORKINGTON Town Council appointed a new mayor on Wednesday evening.
Councillor Herbert Briggs was sworn in as the Mayor for the upcoming year at a ceremony in the Moorclose Theatre.
Councillor Briggs used his speech to thank his wife and family for all the support they had shown him over the years, as well as outgoing mayor Janet King for her work whilst in office.
He also said he looked forward to what he hopes will be a great year in office.
After the ceremony, he said: “It’s an honour to be the mayor of my own town. I’m 56 years old and I’ve lived in Workington 56 years. ....

The Choice is Yours Festival set to take over Millom and Haverigg

A FOUR week long health festival is set to take place across four different locations in Millom and Haverigg.
Week one of The Choice is Yours Festival will take place between May 31-June 4 at Haverigg Cricket Club, week two will see the event move to Millom Rugby Union Football Club between June 7-11, week three will head to Millom Rugby League Football Club on June 14-18 and it will end at Millom Cricket Club on June 21-26.
Each day the festival will take place between 10am-3pm.
There will be activities for all ages including arts and crafts, smoothie making and cooking classes. Advice stalls and workshops will be on offer from a range of organisations including West Cumbria Carers, Hope and Cope, Mind Furness and Men in Sheds. ....

Health and wellbeing festival to be held in Millom
A festival will be held in Millom and Haverigg to give people the chance to talk about their health and wellbeing to professionals.
The four-week Choice is Yours Festival starts on May 31 and will be held from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday at the following venues:
Week 1: Haverigg Cricket Club, Haverigg, Monday 31 May – Friday 4 June
Week 2: Millom Rugby Union Football Club, Haverigg Monday 7 June – Friday 11 June
Week 3: Millom Rugby League Football Club, Coronation Field, Devonshire Road, Millom Monday 14 June – Friday 18 June
Week 4: Millom Cricket Club, Millom, Monday 21 June – Saturday 26 June ....
