Quoting English literature in one breath and commenting how cultural changes could push Canada to the forefront of the ski world with the next, Alpine Canada’s CEO Thérèse Brisson remains optimistic for a brighter future. 
Canada’s alpine team endured challenges likely never to be repeated after a season of a few highs and even more lows. 
“In terms of athletic performance it was extraordinary,” Brisson said on a video call from her home in Mississauga, Ontario. “But extraordinarily challenging … and Canada had an extreme competitive disadvantage with the travel restrictions and quarantines.” ....

In the shadow of the Tofana is the tale of two very different downhill trails. On the one side you find the iconic track, Olympia Della Tofane, which has hosted more women’s World Cup races – 94 – than any other venue. It is an enduring love affair for all who have skied it. Just adjacent is the men’s Vertigine, which due to a confluence of Covid and weather, has felt more like a case of speed dating. And not everyone has made a love connection.
“I don’t like it. I’m at the start and I’m not happy to be there,” Italy’s Christof Innerhofer told NBC after the first training run. “The top is okay, but after the middle passage, I hate it.” ....

CORTINA D AMPEZZO, Italy - Canadian Marie-Michele Gagnon tied a career-best world championships result with a sixth-place finish in the super-G, while Switzerland s Lara Gut-Behrami dashed to gold on Thursday.
American Mikaela Shiffrin took bronze in her first speed race in more than a year.
Gagnon, from Lac-Etchemin, Que., also finished sixth in the combined at the 2017 worlds in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
The Canadian was .41 seconds behind Shiffrin. ....

Canadian Marie-Michele Gagnon finishes sixth in super-G at worlds


The Canadian was .41 seconds behind Shiffrin.
Gagnon captured bronze in a World Cup super-G last month in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
Today went well. Overall, I m happy with the solid result, Gagnon said. I was pushing to get on to the podium, but I lost a bit of time in the middle.
Gut-Behrami mastered the sun-bathed Olympia delle Tofane course to finally win the only medal missing from her storied career.
The 2016 overall World Cup champion beat Swiss teammate Corinne Suter by 0.34 seconds, living up to her billing as the main favourite after winning the last four super-Gs on the World Cup circuit. ....
