Design-build method to be used in development of Pembroke's new aquatic facility

City staff has been given the go ahead to proceed with the next step in developing a new aquatic facility for Pembroke to replace the aging Kinsmen Pool.
On Jan. 19 Pembroke’s combined committee of council cleared the Operations Department to use the design-build method for development and construction of the facility and to proceed by hiring a firm to provide project management services.

While impossible to hang an exact price tag for project management services on a project of this scale at this time, according to Brian Lewis, Operations Department manager, the city can expect to pay between four and eight per cent of the total project cost. The new aquatic facility is being estimated to cost somewhere between $6 million and $11 million. ....

Pembroke supports snowmobile use of Renfrew County's Algonquin Trail through east end to Mackay Street

This winter snowmobilers can use a portion of the County of Renfrew’s Algonquin Trail through the east-end of the City of Pembroke but only as far as Mackay Street.
At its last meeting before the Christmas break, the city’s Finance and Administration committee approved by a five to two vote, authorizing snowmobile use on the eastern portion of the trail in the city.

This came after a rather heated discussion among the members of the council at the previous Finance and Administration committee meeting on Dec. 1 where in a four-to-three recorded vote, Deputy Mayor Ron Gervais’ motion for a one-year pilot project allowing motorized recreational vehicle use of the trail in the City was shot down. ....
