Local VFW post celebrates its 75th anniversary

Inside the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7110, veterans gather to talk about their families, watch sports and laugh over a beer.  But this is not “your grandfather’s VFW,” said Motorcycle Group 20 secretary Teresa Lopez, whose husband served in Vietnam and is a member. The veterans mainly work hard helping local veterans, planning fundraising, and participating in local events to support the greater central Texas community.  An active organization since 1946, it is celebrating its 75th anniversary.  Auxiliary president Ralph Guerrero holds a coin made for the 75th anniversary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7110 on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. New Braunfels Police Chief candidates vie for badge

The final four candidates for New Braunfels’ next police chief took time out from interviews with city staffers to speak with those they hope to serve – regular citizens. Mark Schauer, Keith Lane, Rich Guajardo and Troy Gay, all vying to be top cop in the city, received a warm welcome during a Tuesday evening reception at City Hall. All have final interviews Wednesday with City Manager Robert Camareno and assistant city managers. “We welcome all of them to our community, and it’s a wonderful community,” Camareno said to the quartet of men hoping to succeed Tom Wibert, who retired Oct. 2 after leading the New Braunfels Police Department for a decade.
