Centre County Memorial Day Celebrations Today, Centre County veterans and their families took time to remember their fallen comrades. Bellefonte’s Meyer Cemetery on Buffalo Run Road was the site one of the multiple sites for memorial services in Centre County this afternoon. This Memorial Day weekend, veterans across the county, including Penn State graduate Robert Daughenbaugh, remind Americans to remember messages our founding fathers penned centuries ago. “We the people of this great land, through its Constitution, are entrusted with forming not just a union of states, but a more perfect union,” Division amongst Americans has been a common theme in recent years, but Daughenbaugh wants people to start looking again at the bigger picture. ....
April 9, 1949-April 11, 2021 Joseph “Joe” M. Benner, 72, of Bellefonte, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born on April 9, 1949 in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Dorothy Hull and was raised by his grandparents, the late Russell and Helen Benner. On Nov. 8, 1968, he married Deborah (Garner) Benner, who survives him at home after sharing over 52 years of marriage together. Joe was a graduate of Bellefonte High School, Class of 1967. Prior to his retirement, Joe worked for Weis Markets for more than 50 years. In addition to his wife, Deborah, he is survived by his children, Amy Jo Benner, and Carol Fazler (Karl); two brothers, Ed Benner, and Tom Benner (Janet), and one sister, Helen Eckley (Dale).
