We kind of got lost in the news cycle, said Carla Turner of last season s syrup production that was â like everything else â interrupted by COVID-19. Sugarhouse tours stopped and the normally busy spring season where visitors trek to their favorite farms to smell the sweet steam coming off the boilers was silent. But, the syrup kept coming. Turner â along with her husband, Paul Turner â runs a sugaring operation on Paul s family s dairy farm in South Egremont. The couple has been sugaring at Turner Farms Maple Syrup for 37 years now. The farm, she said, aims to produce 1,000 gallons of syrup a year, some years are better than others. The last two years, they made considerably more, but were worried what they were going to do with it. ....
MCT starts commemorative tree, bench program for trails The Telegraph FacebookTwitterEmail PONTOON BEACH Madison County Transit has launched the MCT Trails Commemorative Tree & Bench Program. The new program provides way for residents and trail users to purchase a tree or bench to be placed along an MCT trail to honor a loved one, or recognize an organization, civic group or business. The MCT trail system includes nine major trails spanning 137 miles, ranging from trails through old-growth forest and unsurpassed views of the Mississippi River, to urban trails connecting parks to outside areas. “For years we’ve heard from trail users who want to make a contribution to the MCT Trails while commemorating a loved one or an organization,” said MCT Managing Director SJ Morrison. “This program allows residents to become more engaged with the MCT Trails, while providing funds for trail amenities such as benches and trees, which have also been requested.� ....

But it still isnât a usual winter for ski resorts. If it were, the downhill season at Swiss Valley Ski & Snowboard Area in Jones would toast its finale this Sunday â typically a week into March. Instead, spokesman Mike Panich says the resort has booked its âSlush Cupâ contest (a sort of farewell party) for March 14 with the option of staying open even longer if the weather permits and visitors keep coming. Snowmelt or not, the resort recently looked more like it was ramping up operations, not chilling out, stoked by the momentum from a super-busy season when weekend ski rentals often ran out. Office Complex on West Endicott EJ Factory Site Nears Completion Construction on a $5 million corporate office building in the town of Union is expected to be finished soon. The facility being built for National Pipe and Plastics is located on property that had been home to an Endicott Johnson factory for several decades.
