MELANY SLAUGHTER / GAZETTE-JOURNAL The Thrifty Spot, currently located in the former Mathews Family YMCA building near the Daily Grind Coffee House and M&M Building Supply, is moving to a new location. Thrifty Spot is making the move to 8303 Buckley Hall Road, beside Country Cuts in Hudgins. The current location will close on May 22 and reopen on June 9. The Thrifty Spot will continue to take donations at its current location until May 22 and will begin taking donations at the new location on June 6. No donations will be taken between May 22 and June 6. James Brent Montgomery HENDERSON â Vance County residents have come together over the last few weeks to express their support of local Highway Patrol Trooper James Brent Montgomery, who is fighting for his life at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill due to COVID-19. His wife, Heather Montgomery, is asking the community to keep her husband in their prayers as he battles COVID-19, and is optimistic that some recent minor improvements with his condition are a positive sign that he will recover from the virus. The trooper is on a heart-lung machine, receiving whatâs called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation thatâs purging carbon dioxide from his bloodstream. ....
