Visitors of the General George Patton Museum of Leadership on Fort Knox will be given a glimpse into the lives of World War II-era soldiers Saturday as the museum unveils the new World War II barracks exhibit. Located outside of the museum building, the exhibit includes a restored and authentic barracks building from WWII, along with period-accurate details of the living quarters for trainees during the war. According to Mike Martin, director of fundraising for the museum, the barracks exhibit is a project that is about 10 years in the making. Retired Col. Mike Weaver led an effort to relocate and restore the barracks. Using a team of volunteers, the building was transported across Fort Knox and restoration efforts took place for over two years to restore the building to its original condition. ....

And while this creative approach to assessing student knowledge is, at least in part, due to remote learning, the strategies are powerful and make sense during a normal school year. “I think this is good for a lot of us math teachers because it’s forced us to rethink what assessments are supposed to accomplish,” math teacher Matthew Rector told Will. “In the past, most of us have thought about assessments as ranking tools give a kid a grade and move on. Assessments should be about moving mathematical knowledge forward.” ....
