Did Unionist tactical voting ads stop SNP from winning key target seats?

THE SNP may have lost target seats because pro-Union groups spent tens of thousands of pounds on digital ads pushing tactical voting, an investigation has revealed.
The SNP and Scottish Greens won a total of 72 seats in Holyrood on a record turnout for the Scottish Parliament elections of 63% – 10% higher than the previous average.
But an OpenDemocracy report found the party could have lost key seats, which prevented them from achieving an outright majority, due to  social media adverts with a lack of transparency over funding.
The site found a group called Young Unionists spent more than £20,000 on Facebook ads, including more than £5000 in the final days of the campaign. Tens of thousands of voters were pushed to the VoteUnion tactical voting tool. ....

Greens bosses suggest coalition if SNP fail to win majority sparking claims it would be 'disaster'

“Their plans for higher taxes and more red tape would crush Scotland’s economic recovery.
“Ending oil and gas extraction in the North Sea would deliver a hammer blow to lives and livelihoods in north-east Scotland.”
He likened the land reform plans to those that led to economic meltdown in Zimbabwe, adding: “It’s a fluffy way of saying state-backed seizure of private property, scaring away investment.

“Pursued to the ideological purity of the far-left, it risks turning Scotland into Zimbabwe of the North Sea.”
His blast came after Mr Harvie was asked on the BBC how close he was willing to tie his party to the SNP and if he’d go into a formal coalition. He claimed he did not expect the offer to be on the table from the Nats, who relied on Greens support in the last parly term to pass laws and Budgets. ....

Concerns over 'dark money' being used to fund adverts for Unionist Facebook groups

CONCERNS have been raised that “dark money” is being used to fund adverts for Unionist Facebook groups, an investigation by The Ferret and The Free Press for today’s Sunday National has found.
A UK Government adviser and a senior figure at the Adam Smith Institute (ASI) think tank is among the figures behind the funding, along with two men who campaigned against Jeremy Corbyn through social media groups and who are now targeting the SNP.
The SNP described the Tories and dark money as “familiar partners”.
So-called dark money is funding raised for political campaigning through non-profit organisations that do not have to provide the identity of the source of those funds. ....

Two people who campaigned against Jeremy Corbyn through opaque social media groups are now running Facebook campaigns targeting the SNP
A UK Government adviser and senior figure at the Adam Smith Institute (ASI) has funded adverts for a campaign group called Businesses For The Union, prompting concerns over so-called “dark money” political activity in Scotland’s election campaign.
An investigation by The Ferret and The Free Press also found that two people who campaigned against Jeremy Corbyn through opaque social media groups are now running Facebook campaigns targeting the SNP.
Although the above political activism is perfectly legal, campaigners have raised concerns over a lack of transparency over funding and called for new legislation to combat the influence of so-called dark money in politics. ....
