Meigs Board approves agenda items Several personnel matters were approved for summer programs and the 2021-22 school year. The board approved the newly created job description for the Director of Operations and Transportation as submitted, and approved William Ellis for the position on a three year contract from Aug. 1, 2021 through July 31, 2024. The board approved to hire the following as substitute cooks for the 2021 summer feeding program, to be used on an as-needed basis, pending completion of all administrative requirements, and retroactive to June 1, 2021: Debbie Cundiff, Shelby Davis, Shane Donohue, Aaron Oliphant, Paula Roush, Nate Sisson, Jayson Tillis. Marie Pierce was approved as a Personal Assistant, retroactive to June 21-July 2, and pending completion of all administrative requirements. ....

The theme for this year s contest, which went online for the second year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, was “Family Time. All 142 student entries are viewable online. Participating schools included Rocky Bayou Christian School, Crestview High School, Silver Sands School, Meigs Middle School, Lewis Middle School, Bluewater Elementary and Plew Elementary. Eglin Federal Credit Union donated gift cards for all the winners and Fort Walton Beach Sam’s Club additionally covered two extra third place winners. Peggy Brockman, executive director of United for a Good Cause and a master trainer for the Hope Squad, was present to address a chilly Meigs Hope Squad at an outdoor morning event. You have been selected by your peers as someone trustworthy, a good listener, Peggy Brockman told the Hope Squad at the Meigs event. Franks read a city proclamation and urged the Hope Squad members to continue taking action to prevent suicide. You matter, you are our future, and you are making a difference, he said. Meigs Middle is one of nine Okaloosa County schools that have created hope squads, most of them were recognized in some form or fashion on or before Friday s Day of Hope, a day set aside nationwide to honor the suicide prevention teams, Brockman said. ....
