Franks read a city proclamation and urged the Hope Squad members to continue taking action to prevent suicide. You matter, you are our future, and you are making a difference, he said.
Meigs Middle is one of nine Okaloosa County schools that have created hope squads, most of them were recognized in some form or fashion on or before Friday s Day of Hope, a day set aside nationwide to honor the suicide prevention teams, Brockman said.

The current terms of Mayor Robby Adams and council members Mike Blizzard and Johnny James expire in April.
Adams and Travis A. Dewrell have qualified to run for mayor. Blizzard and James were the only qualifiers for the council races, according to the supervisor of elections.
Shalimar voters will decide who will serve as mayor for the next two years and determine the winners of two open Town Commission seats, which have four-year terms.
The current terms of Mayor Mark Franks and Commissioners Ricardo Garcia and Jim Wilton expire in April.
