Meghwal and Trivedi were Congress MLAs, while Maheshwari was a BJP lawmaker. Both parties have given tickets to their family members. The by-elections to the three assembly seats in Rajasthan have registered a turnout of 60.37 per cent, an official said on Sunday. The three constituencies recorded a lower turnout of 13 per cent than the 2018 assembly elections. As many as 4,49,885 people out of 7.45 lakh voters exercised their franchise on Saturday to decide the fate of 27 candidates in the three seats, a State Election Commission spokesperson said. ....
Representative image JAISALMER: A youth eloped with a minor girl of minority community in Jaisalmer. Hundreds of people of minority community demonstrated and submitted a memorandum to the district collector on Saturday. They also gave ultimatum that if the girl is not recovered till Monday then they will intensify their agitation. Two teams have been sent in search of the girl. Police have so far have arrested five culprits who had helped the boy in eloping with the girl. A large number of people of minority community gathered at Hanuman Circle and proceeded to the collectorate. They submitted a memorandum in which they alleged that on February 2, a major youth of Meghwal community eloped with a minor girl of minority community. The couple was in Mt Abu on February 3 after which there was no information about them. They have also alleged that there is a gang involved and the minor has been gangraped. How it happened According to the police, the teenager, identified as Gemara Ram Meghwal, was in a relationship with a girl who lives near his house in Sajjan Ka Paar village within the territorial limits of Bijrad police station, near the India-Pakistan border. On the intervening night of November 4 last year, he tried to secretly enter his girlfriend’s house to meet her. The girl’s parents, however, caught him. They threatened to inform his family about it. After this, Meghwal, fearing infamy, crossed into Pakistani territory. What followed was a futile search for him by his family members for over 11 days. ....
