Eww, That’s Gross. And We Like It That Way. Why the tasteless humor of “Bad Trip,” starring Eric Andre, is a feat to be celebrated. Few can pull off transgression so skillfully. Eric Andre, left, and Lil Rel Howery in a scene from “Bad Trip.”Credit.Netflix April 30, 2021 If the comedy “Bad Trip” had premiered in theaters as intended until it moved to Netflix because of the pandemic, one already notorious scene would have surely sent crowds into a frenzy of groans and laughter. It involves an encounter between Eric Andre and a gorilla best not described in a family newspaper. Skillfully paced, preposterously tasteless, it’s a sequence that will alienate a portion of its audience, while cementing a cult reputation with another. ....
Why Sarah Nguyen From Yellowstone Looks So Familiar Why Sarah Nguyen From Yellowstone Looks So Familiar Paramount By Brooke Mondor/April 23, 2021 8:56 am EDT Paramount s western drama Yellowstone centers on a ranching family in Montana who s trying to keep a hold of their land. As they fight against land developers and an Indian reservation to maintain ownership of their property, the Dutton family s world is further turned upside down after journalist Sarah Nguyen enters their lives. Though she only appeared in a handful of episodes, Nguyen s surprising death at the hands of one of the Dutton family members led to a whole new mess for the rest of the family to clean up. Express News Service Remember the Candid Camera TV show hosted by Allen Funt? For those who have missed it or want a Thursday Throwback moment, comes Bad Trip from the school of Jeff Tremaine, the co-creator of Jackass. The tonality and treatment are self-explanatory, with the story woven around a series of pranks, as hidden cameras capture the bewildered reactions of people. This is not a film for those who seek story or sensitivity. Bad Trip, akin to the Jackass films and the more high-profile hidden-camera film franchise, Borat, thrives in its absurdity. When Chris Carey (played by stand-up comedian Eric Andre) runs into his high-school crush Maria Li (Michaela Conlin), he is struck by a revelation to try and make up for all the years he has wasted. In an attempt to win Maria’s love, Chris sets out on a road trip from Florida to New York with his best-friend Bud Malone (Lil Rel Howery). For their commute, the duo steals a car owned by Bud’s sister, Trina (Tiffany ....
‘Bad Trip’ raunchy prank antics run wild; cable TV preview Tim Riley 04 April 2021 ‘BAD TRIP’ TV MOVIE ON NETFLIX Johnny Knoxville has been on hiatus for several years from the idiocy of the wild pranks of the “Jackass” franchise, but until the next installment arrives the vacuum can be filled by others making a hidden camera movie. We are long past the days of Allen Funt’s “Candid Camera,” and for the uninitiated, clips of classic episodes of this landmark television series from the Fifties and Sixties may be glimpsed on YouTube. To fill the void until Knoxville returns, Netflix steps into the breach with “Bad Trip,” a raunchy prank-filled adventure thankfully devoid of a political agenda or social commentary. ....
By MICHAEL PHILLIPS Chicago Tribune March 31, 2021 41 The other day I watched two Netflix features back-to-back: “A Week Away,” the faith-based summer camp musical romance, followed by “Bad Trip,” which requires and rewards a different sort of faith. If you know “The Eric Andre Show,” which I do thanks to an introduction a few years back made by my son, you know that Andre works beautiful, stupid, smart, stupid/smart magic, pranking the universe for the sake of hidden-camera humiliations of all stripes. In “Bad Trip,” which co-stars Lil Rel Howery and Tiffany Haddish, we have one of the more buoyant examples of this comic sub-genre, not quite up to the first “Borat” but way, way out ahead of any of the “Jackass” movies. ....
