Red Betty Theatre celebrates 10th year with new lineup of plays

Red Betty Theatre is celebrating ten years as Hamilton’s Indigenous, Black, People of Colour (IBPOC) feminist theatre company.  The Inaugural  Decolonise Your Ears New Play Festival is a three day virtual festival running from June 24 to 26, 2021.
Decolonising theatre doesn’t mean tossing out the likes of Tennessee Williams, Joe Orton or the Bard. It means brown and black bodies having space and time to explore their voices, develop their practices and explore lesser-known cultural forms without having to negotiate, conform or squeeze into the parameters of Western aesthetics.
Festival playwrights were chosen through an open submission call and juried process. Playwrights then worked with their partnered dramaturges to develop three drafts of a script. The development process culminates in a staged reading of the pieces at the inaugural festival. The festival will be Deaf Accessible with ASL Interpretation throughout.  ....

Shakespeare & Co. heads back to its roots with new season — outside

Paying little attention to the brisk wind blowing off the sun-swept field that stretches behind Shakespeare & Company’s Tina Packer Playhouse, Artistic Director Allyn Burrows led a visitor on a brisk walk across the theater’s spacious terrace and down a narrow path leading past the outdoor Roman Garden Theatre.
Burrows paused for a brief moment to comment on some things that will remain the same in the Roman Garden, one or two that may not, once Shakespeare & Company begins its 2021 season at 70 Kemble St. in Lenox.
Burrows then continued down the path to what will become pride of place — the outdoor New Spruce Theatre, now a sprawl of compact white fill and a cluster of towering trees that give the new space its name. ....

BAZ BAMIGBOYE: Mamma Mia 3? I do, I do, I do, declares Cher!

Cher wants to be in the Mamma Mia 3 movie sharing a duet with Meryl Streep.
The stars, who ve been friends since they made Silkwood in 1983, played mother and daughter in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again three years ago. Just to clarify: Cher (74) played Ruby Sheridan mother of 71-year-old Streep s Donna.
Cher recently told Mamma Mia! film and stage producer Judy Craymer no one wants to see us old people on the screen again .
To which Craymer responded that she wanted to see her. And in particular, she wanted to see her and Streep, singing Slipping Through My Fingers.
That s the same poignant number Meryl sang to her own screen daughter (played by Amanda Seyfried) in the first film. 13 years ago. ....
