A Special Olympics Maryland athlete was surprised Friday upon receiving the Jimmy Myrick Jr. Governor s Courage Award.Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and top state police officials thanked Polar Bear Plunge participants and Special Olympics Maryland athletes for keeping the plunge going in these difficult times.Usually, when we think of the Polar Bear Plunge, we think of a dip out at Sandy Point State Park. This year, because of the global coronavirus pandemic, the plunge has gone virtual.Officials held a subdued opening ceremony Friday afternoon in Annapolis.
