On Monday (July 5), the board held a special meeting, during which Kamloops South-Thompson MLA Todd Stone told the board more fires started in the same period in British Columbia during the historic 2017 fire year. However, he noted significance of the size of fires this year, loss of life and Village of Lytton being wiped out. The board considered asking for a provincial state of emergency. TNRD board chair Ken Gillis said such a declaration makes a statement one he thinks the province should have made “long ago.” He also said he is not confident the province could move swiftly, should it need powers allowed through a state of emergency declaration. ....
