Off-contract NRL player Jamil Hopoate hit his partner in the face, spat at her and threatened to “bash” intervening security guards after an argument that began because he didn’t want to leave a club, court documents allege.
The 26-year-old awaits sentencing after pleading guilty to multiple assault and driving charges following the incident with his de facto partner of more than six years, Shae Beathe, at the Panthers Port Macquarie club on December 28, 2020. ....

TNRD board to ask provincial government to impose ban on backcountry recreation


On Monday (July 5), the board held a special meeting, during which Kamloops South-Thompson MLA Todd Stone told the board more fires started in the same period in British Columbia during the historic 2017 fire year.
However, he noted significance of the size of fires this year, loss of life and Village of Lytton being wiped out.
The board considered asking for a provincial state of emergency. TNRD board chair Ken Gillis said such a declaration makes a statement  one he thinks the province should have made “long ago.” He also said he is not confident the province could move swiftly, should it need powers allowed through a state of emergency declaration. ....
