Senior Spotlight: Emily Miller, Highland Tech

Emily Miller will graduate Highland School of Technology on Friday, May 28. Miller, who aspires to help protect the United States, spent her high school years as a varsity cheerleader and she was a member of the Highland Harmonies Honors Choir, National Technical Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and Beta Club. When she’s not at school, she dances with the Beyond Dance Project in Gastonia.  Who has been your greatest influence and why?  MILLER: My mom has been my greatest influence. I’m inspired by my mom who is selfless, kind, intelligent, beautiful, and who always pushes me and my brother to do our very best. She has taught me to believe in myself and never let my fears and doubts stop me from chasing my dreams. My momma shaped me into the strong, perseverant, goal-oriented, capable woman that I am now.

Senior Spotlight: Maria Osario Rada, Ashbrook High Who has been your greatest influence and why?   RADA: My biggest influence has been my mom because she has taught me to never give up, empower women and be strong just like her.  What clubs, arts, or sports were you involved with in high school?   RADA: I have been part of the Voces Latinas club, which helped a lot of Hispanic families at teacher conferences. I was part of the swim team my junior year.  Name something unique that you accomplished or in which you participated during high school.   RADA: My senior year in October, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s lymphoma (cancer in my lymph nodes) and I was able to continue my education after beating and recovering from cancer.

Senior Spotlight: Jacob Mullen, East Gaston High

Senior Spotlight: Jacob Mullen, East Gaston High Jacob Mullen will graduate from East Gaston High School on Friday, May 28 as a member of the Beta Club, National Honors Society and National Art Honor Societies. Mullen spent all four of his high school years running cross-country and track at the school. He’s also an accomplished student artist.   Who has been your greatest influence and why?   MULLEN: My math teacher Mr. Michael Kaufman and my art teacher Mr. Justin Allison. Both of them have been excellent teachers and have made me want to pursue aspects of these subjects in my college career.

Community Roundup: PCHS announces Senior Spotlight for May Submitted PCHS announces Senior Spotlight for May PORT CLINTON - Port Clinton High School announced the Senior Spotlight for May is Alaina Dackermann. She has represented PCHS as a student athlete all four years of high school. In fact, each fall season she was a dual sport athlete for tennis and cross country. She was part of the Sandusky Bay Conference Championship Tennis Team and received individual league honors her junior and senior year. She was the 2020 tennis team captain, and received the silver racket award her junior and senior year. As a PCHS diver, she set a goal as a freshman to qualify for the state diving meet all four years which she accomplished along with placing 12th as a senior.

Steven Holly in Port Clinton's Senior Spotlight in April

The Beacon Port Clinton High School announced that Steven Holly has been selected to be in the Senior Spotlight for April. Holly has been active in many clubs and activities at Port Clinton, including National Honor Society, Key Club, Academic Challenge, PCHS morning announcements and, as an athlete, in cross country and track. Holly is vice president of Drama Club and an officer in Port Clinton’s DECA. He has been part of the choir, and is also a member of the A Cappella ensemble Touch of Class. He has excelled in the classroom and is one of the top 10 students in the Class of 2021, and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors.  Holly is the son of Brian and Diane Holly. Next year, Steven plans to further his education at Bowling Green State University, majoring in accounting.
