Heart disease link to gum health not widely known dentists say


Early symptoms include bleeding gums and pockets may form and become infected. 
In severe cases “oral pathogens” entering the blood vessels can put the body into a state of chronic inflammation putting you at risk of heart disease or stroke.
Regular visits to the dentist and good oral hygiene is generally sufficient to keep gums healthy, but some people are more susceptible and lifestyle factors including smoking can also heighten the risk.
Dental services have been significantly affected by the pandemic, with NHS and private patients continuing to experience delays for check-ups. 
Patient numbers remain capped due to social distancing restrictions and certain treatments are still off the table. ....

If you ve found yourself working long hours during the pandemic, you aren’t alone. Although the initial shift to working from home led many people to imagine a life of lie-ins and longer lunch breaks, over the course of the last year the reality has become very different: one study found that employees in the UK are working an extra two hours a day.
Jonathan Frostick knows this better than anyone. The HSBC manager recently suffered a heart attack and, while recovering in hospital, decided to post on LinkedIn vowing to work less after racking up long hours in lockdown, which has since been viewed more than eight million times. ....

People with big BELLIES are more likely to develop heart disease - regardless of their BMI


US researchers analysed previous research on managing and treating obesity, particularly abdominal obesity.
They found that people with excess fat around the body s mid-section have an increased risk of heart disease, even if they are within a healthy weight range.
While the reason for the link remains unclear, the team hopes the findings will encourage doctors to take abdominal fat and BMI measurements when assessing patients risk for heart disease.
