Lena Legion sends veterans to Cubs game
LENA The Sons of the Lena American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary sent four veterans to a Cubs baseball game July 6.
Sons Cmdr. Scot Stich made arrangements with Maryna Misiewicz of the Veterans Assistance Commission of Stephenson County to select four veterans. The tickets and meals were funded by the Sons and the American Legion Auxiliary.
The veterans were driven by Stich and Stu Sondgeroth.
Freeport VFW 998 to meet

The Madison County Board voted to review and release some closed session minutes prior to April 30, including meetings to address litigation involving former auditor Rick Faccin.
Madison County has reached an undisclosed settlement with the Veterans’ Assistance Commission (VAC) and Superintendent Bradley Lavite in a lawsuit alleging the department has been underfunded by more than $1 million.

The Madison County Board on Wednesday approved an $850,000 settlement of a federal lawsuit filed by a former department head, and also settled two lawsuits filed by the superintendent of the Veterans’ Assistance Commission for an undisclosed amount. The board was also nearly unanimous in rejecting a map proposal by the county board chairman.
Kristen Poshard, former director of community development, on March 19, 2019, filed suit against the county and former County Board member Philip Chapman. The suit alleges Chapman made unwanted sexual advances on Poshard and supervisors retaliated against Poshard for reporting the issue. The county terminated Poshard’s employment on Oct. 18, 2017. The lawsuits filed in 2015 and 2018 by Veterans’ Assistance Commission Superintendent Bradley Lavite allege the county breached its contract for funding the agency and improperly kept him from accessing his office after he suffered a post
