County Board Settles Lawsuits, Rejects Map

WBGZ Radio 5/20/2021 | By Jason White - WBGZ Radio The Madison County Board on Wednesday approved an $850,000 settlement of a federal lawsuit filed by a former department head, and also settled two lawsuits filed by the superintendent of the Veterans’ Assistance Commission for an undisclosed amount.  The board was also nearly unanimous in rejecting a map proposal by the county board chairman. Kristen Poshard, former director of community development, on March 19, 2019, filed suit against the county and former County Board member Philip Chapman. The suit alleges Chapman made unwanted sexual advances on Poshard and supervisors retaliated against Poshard for reporting the issue. The county terminated Poshard’s employment on Oct. 18, 2017.  The lawsuits filed in 2015 and 2018 by Veterans’ Assistance Commission Superintendent Bradley Lavite allege the county breached its contract for funding the agency and improperly kept him from accessing his office after he suffered a post
