Lena Legion sends veterans to Cubs game
LENA The Sons of the Lena American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary sent four veterans to a Cubs baseball game July 6.
Sons Cmdr. Scot Stich made arrangements with Maryna Misiewicz of the Veterans Assistance Commission of Stephenson County to select four veterans. The tickets and meals were funded by the Sons and the American Legion Auxiliary.
The veterans were driven by Stich and Stu Sondgeroth.
Freeport VFW 998 to meet
FREEPORT Freeport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 998 will hold its monthly meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Junior’s Place, 1802 E. Shawnee St.
Stephenson County Democrats hold drive for veterans

FREEPORT Leading up to the General Election held in November, Stephenson County Democrats focused on getting people out to vote. Following the election, many in the local party wanted to turn their attention to giving back to the community.
On the last week of January and into February, the local political organization held a Veterans Gratitude Drive to collect food and personal items for local veterans. The drop-off point was at the Boys & Girls Club in Freeport.
Renardo Weathersby, chairman of the Stephenson County Democrats, helped coordinate the donation drive with Maryna Misiewicz, superintendent at veterans Assistance Commission. Misiewicz said she welcomed the hundreds of items to help the 50 veterans that needed something extra during the pandemic.
