I had a personal relationship with Shahabuddin. He was not only my good friend and brother but I also had a lot of intimacy with him. I am very much shocked and also surprised by his untimely demise. Image Source: IANS News Patna, May 4 : Former Bihar Chief Minister and president of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), Jitan Ram Manjhi, on Monday demanded a judicial inquiry into the death of former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, who passed away at a Delhi hospital on Saturday. Shahabuddin, 53, was serving a life sentence in a 2004 double murder case. He was shifted to the Tihar jail in 2018. Sandeep Goyal, the Director General of Tihar jail, had said in a statement, Information has been received from the DDU (Deen Dayal Upadhyay) Hospital about the death of Mohammad Shahabuddin, an inmate of Delhi prison. ....
When everything surrounding is so grey and gloomy due to the pandemic, publication of the book, Bangladesh and International Law (Routledge 2021) edited by Professor Mohammad Shahabuddin, brought some colors of joy, pride and excitement among the Bangladeshi law scholars who takes some sort of interest in international law. At least, for sure it was a moment to celebrate for those who have contributed to the project. The book also came at the time when Bangladesh is celebrating its 50 th anniversary of its independence, the very birth of which in 1971 had challenged, disrupted and reshaped many conventional doctrines of international law in a Cold War era; making the publication of this book with what we call a perfect timing ! It gives me pleasure to write few words about the book, about which the editor passionately tweeted, A collection of international law stories of suffering, solidarity, resilience, resistance, and success from the Global South fascinating enough ....
NEW DELHI: Gangster and politician Mohammad Shahabuddin, who once ruled Siwan with criminal impunity, died of a Covid-19 infection on Saturday while serving a life term in Delhi’s Tihar jail for a double murder. He was 53. The former MP had been lodged in high-security jail number 2 at the Tihar Jail Complex in a murder case. The Delhi prison administration said Shahabuddin had been admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital on April 20 after he showed symptoms of Covid, and was shifted to the ICU three days ago. Director-general (prisons) Sandeep Goel said they received information from the hospital that Shahabuddin had died during treatment. Shahabuddin had been the terror of Siwan for many years. An RJD MP four times and twice an MLA, political patronage was said to have allowed him to cultivate his infamy for illegal profit. ....
