NEW DELHI: Former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin passed away at a Delhi hospital on Saturday due to Covid-related complications. He was 53.
The Tihar jail authorities had refuted initial reports of Shahabuddin s death and said he was still undergoing treatment at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital.
Later, the hospital confirmed that he has died of Covid.
Prison officials said he was admitted to the ICU of the hospital two-three days ago.
The gangster-turned-politician was among the high profile inmates at Tihar jail after Chhota Rajan and Umar Khalid who had tested positive for the virus.
The Covid positive prisoners were kept in separate cells without much contact with other inmates. ....

New Delhi, May 1 : Don-turned-politician and former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin passed away at a hospital in Delhi where he was undergoing treatment for Covid-19, officials said on Saturday.
The 53-year-old was serving a life sentence in a 2004 double murder case. He was shifted to the Tihar jail in 2018.
Sandeep Goyal, the Director General of Tihar jail, said in a statement, Information has been received from the DDU (Deen Dayal Upadhyay) Hospital about the death of Mohammad Shahabuddin, an inmate of Delhi prison. ....

Reports of former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin's death not true, say hospital sources

New Delhi: The death reports of former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin doing the rounds on the internet are not true, sources in Delhi confirmed on Saturday (May 1, 2021). Earlier, there were reports that the Bihar Baahubali leader passed away on Saturday morning, however, there was no official confirmation on it.
Mohammad Shahabuddin is currently in the ICU and was serving a life sentence for murder in Tihar jail.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court had directed the AAP government and the prison authority to ensure proper medical supervision and care of Shahabuddin.
Justice Prathiba M Singh had said the doctor on duty for looking after COVID-19 patients shall monitor Shahabuddin s health condition and treatment and if required, also consult with senior doctors of the hospital. ....
