Mike Mathias had just âlost everythingâ to Hurricane Irma. His house was gone, along with everything in it. But three days later, he was on the job for Fishermenâs Community Hospital, also a casualty of that Sept. 10, 2017 Category 4 hurricane. âToday, you know, was a miracle,â Mathias said after the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new $43.7 million version of the hospital. âWhen they cut that ribbon, I felt happiness, and I felt sad. There is a sigh of relief coming in Marathon. Fishermen’s Community Hospital is opening its brand-new doors Monday, nearly four years after its doors and everything else were damaged by ....
A relatively light Marathon City Council agenda opened Tuesday evening with a detailed pitch by Fishermenâs Community Hospital spokespeople for a continuation of the cityâs support for the Municipal Services Taxing Unit (MSTU) to help pay for the rebuild of Fishermenâs Hospital and led to discussions on several additional local topics. Those documents have now been received and reviewed. ....
The Marathon City Council on Tuesday will focus on two ordinances that involve water and irrigation within the Marathon city limits and an important review of long-sought financial documents from Baptist Health South Florida, key to the funding for the rebuilding of Fishermenâs Community Hospital. There is also a resolution on the councilâs agenda to approve an agreement between the City and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) providing funding for the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery Infrastructure Repair Program (CDBG), along with and a property redevelopment agreement between the City and Marlin Bay Yacht Club. Ordinance 2021-07 proposes stringent irrigation restrictions. It was pulled from last monthâs agenda because City Manager George Garrett wanted to have a Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority representative on hand for insight and details. It is back on todayâs agenda with an FKAA speaker scheduled and is expected ....
Drew Grossman has been named chief executive officer of Mariners Hospital and Fishermenâs Community Hospital, both part of Baptist Health South Florida. Grossman will assume his position on Feb. 25, after the retirement of longtime CEO Rick Freeburg. Grossman earned a bachelor of science degree from The Pennsylvania State University and a master of health services administration degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. After completing his administrative residency at Parkway Medical Center in North Miami Beach, Grossman moved to Southern California to serve as assistant administrator at Centinela Hospital Medical Center, an acute care hospital serving Los Angeles and the South Bay regions. ....
