Why BJP is likely to fall short in Bengal
Despite working up a winning momentum, the party is likely to fall short of the halfway mark in the state

Having spent the last one month in Bengal, it is clear to me that BJP is set to emerge as the main opposition party. BJP supporters may not like this but the ground reality is that the party will actually find it difficult to cross double digits. Psephologists on the ground put the possible range of seats for the BJP between 80 and 95 in the Assembly of 294. My own impression is it will be on the lower side.

Voting in the Natabari constituency will be held in the fourth phase of the West Bengal assembly election which is scheduled for April 10.

When Bengal went to the polls the last time, the Natabari constituency saw a fight between the Trinamool Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) - CPI(M) or Left, baam to the native tongue. No one knew what was or who were the BJP. The election symbols in poll parlance here were Jora Phool and Kasta-Haturi. TMC s twin flowers, and the Left s hammer and sickle. TMC won the last election un/fair and square. Rabindranath Ghosh defeated Tamser Ali by 16,157 votes. Ghosh was handed the North Bengal Development department in the state government.

Of 44 seats, 14 are spread across two districts of north Bengal, 9 in Cooch Behar and 5 in Alipurduar district
Marginalised people from remote areas will exercise their right to franchise as 14 seats in Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts of north Bengal go to the polls in the fourth phase of West Bengal Assembly elections. The areas include erstwhile enclaves bordering Bangladesh to a particularly vulnerable primitive tribe Toto living in the hills near Bhutan. In all, the electorate of 44 Assembly segments will vote in the fourth phase on April 10.
