Members of the County Council took time during their final meeting of the year to recognize three members.
Council Vice-President Penny Lukenbill read a resolution from the council for Judith Stone who wasn’t at the meeting Monday. It said, “Judith Stone has been on the Marshall County Council for 12 years serving from January 1, 2008 until December 1, 2020, having served as President for 4 years. Judith Stone has retired from the Council after years of distinguished service and as a result of her outstanding leadership, Marshall County has been and continues to be financially sound with the highest ratings in the State of Indiana. Judith Stone is hereby honored by the County Council for her 12 years of outstanding leadership to the county and they acknowledge her dedication and commitment to the citizens of Marshall County.” ....

Council Approves 90-Day Pay Waiver and 2nd K-9 for Sheriff's Dept. | WTCA FM 106.1 and AM 1050 The Best, Music, News and Sports

The Marshall County Council approved the request of Sheriff Matt Hassel and Highway Superintendent Jason Peters to waive the 90 percent pay for a new employee.
This week Sheriff Hassel told council members a part-time turnkey/dispatcher who has worked for the department since Nov. 2019 has been moved to full time.
Peters told the council he hired Howard Holcomb who already has his class A CDL license and is well qualified to be an area leader.
The council approved their requests. They also approved the Sheriff’s request to purchase a second K9 for the department.
Matt Hassel said they had planned to extend the K9 program for the last year-and-a-half but when COVID hit it took a back seat. Hassel said the new K9 dog was trained in Knox at Jager Elite K9 by Chad Dulin and is now available for purchase. The sheriff said the Marshall County Prosecutor is willing to help support the expansion financially. ....

County Council Tables Approval of Bond Issuance for Bremen Library Project | WTCA FM 106.1 and AM 1050 The Best, Music, News and Sports

Members of the Marshall County Council tabled a decision on a bond issue for the construction project of the Bremen Public Library during their meeting Monday morning. The County Council must give their approval to the bond issue since the members of the Bremen Library Board are not elected officials.
Chris Scandling, Executive Director of the library discussed the project with the council while their financial advisor and legal counsel tried to determine if a public hearing was required or just have the bonding issue discussed at a public meeting.
Scandling said the $3.2 million project would renovate the existing library, construct an addition to the library building and reconfigure the parking lot. He told the County Council that the project actually started about two-and-a-half years ago. Penny Lukenbill Honored with a Sagamore of the Wabash | WTCA FM 106.1 and AM 1050 The Best, Music, News and Sports

Vice President of the County Council, Penny Lukenbill opened the final meeting of the new year in the absence of President Judith Stone who resigned her position on December 1
st.
Lukenbill was surprised with a crowd of people entered the meeting room during the meeting. Commissioner President, Kevin Overmyer asked to interrupt the meeting and then asked John Oliver from US Granules to make a few comments on this being Lukenbill’s last meeting.
Mr. Oliver then read a letter sent to Governor Holcomb that said, “Penny A. Lukenbill has served the citizens of Marshall County in elected office for over two decades. Having been selected by caucus to fill the balance of an unexpired term as Marshall County Treasurer in 1999, Penny won a full term as Treasurer, serving until 2005.
