Early in his scientific career, Brian Gardiner, who has died aged 88, was seduced by fossils – the remains, shapes or traces of ancient organisms preserved in rock. Brian wanted to learn how these should be interpreted and classified and what they reveal about evolution. In the 1950s, working at Queen Elizabeth College, London (which has now merged with King’s College London), and using the collections of the Natural History Museum (NHM), he first studied fish embedded in Jurassic limestone formed 170-200m years ago. But the court has declined to increase Harrap s non-parole period, which remains at 12 months.
Harrap pleaded guilty to two counts of deception in relation to the use of his government car and to one count of conspiring to commit an abuse of public office.
He had tried to avoid demerit points and the loss of his licence over speeding fines by lying about who was driving his car at the time.
He had also ensured he heard a court matter despite previously giving the lawyer involved private advice in relation to the case.
At a hearing in February, Director of Public Prosecutions Martin Hinton argued that Harrap s sentences for both sets of offending were manifestly inadequate and urged the Court of Appeal to intervene. ....

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $7,500 for information on a homicide that occurred on Maple Ridge Avenue in Buffalo.
Officials say Martin Hinton was killed on September 24, 2020 on Maple Ridge Avenue.
