Man's body found in Ennis 16 months after disappearance, coroner hears


 
The skeletal remains of a 39-year old man were discovered at a derelict house in Ennis 16 months after he disappeared from his home in England, an inquest has heard.
Garda Michael O’Neill told Clare Coroner’s Court, sitting in Kilrush, that Ilie Stangaciu was found by Clare County Council workmen at a derelict council house in Ennis on September 21st, 2020.
His badly decomposed remains were found in a room at the house on Lahinch Road. A wallet containing his identification was found at the scene
A postmortem found the cause of death was asphyxiation by hanging. There was no other evidence of injury to his body. ....

Judge who tried to avoid losing licence by lying about who was driving his car has term increased


But the court has declined to increase Harrap s non-parole period, which remains at 12 months.
Harrap pleaded guilty to two counts of deception in relation to the use of his government car and to one count of conspiring to commit an abuse of public office.
He had tried to avoid demerit points and the loss of his licence over speeding fines by lying about who was driving his car at the time.
He had also ensured he heard a court matter despite previously giving the lawyer involved private advice in relation to the case.
At a hearing in February, Director of Public Prosecutions Martin Hinton argued that Harrap s sentences for both sets of offending were manifestly inadequate and urged the Court of Appeal to intervene. ....
