It was sad news for Southfield resident Shay Foster when she heard The Teacher s Store in Livonia was closing its doors for good. So the teacher decided to make one last trip to stock on the supplies she ll need in the fall, visiting the shop the afternoon of July 8. I did jump on the opportunity, said Foster, who teaches preschool students in Southfield. Because I was going to come a few weeks back and I m like, I really need posters. But then I m like, Oh my gosh, they re closing, I m definitely going now. Foster is one of many educators and parents who have flocked to the shop at 16911 Middlebelt in recent days after hearing word it would close its doors for good. A business that s operated in Livonia for 48 years, the store specialized in providing learning and classroom materials from workbooks to paper to art supplies. ....

View Comments When looking for a spot for his newest pizza shop, Ron Matti said Livonia was the perfect choice. After months of cleaning and preparation, Matti opened his latest venture, Pizza Boxx, in mid-May. Located at 15385 Merriman in the space formerly occupied by Mama Vera s pizzeria, the takeout restaurant serves up pizza, salad, wings and other foods for hungry guests. The reason I decided to come out here is because I love the neighborhood, Matti said. Livonia looks pretty nice and clean. Matti bought the business earlier this year and waited for Mama Vera s to wind down its operations. He then closed the space for two months to clean and remodel, including adding his brand s décor in the front lobby. Most of the equipment Matti acquired from the previous pizza shop, though he said he brought in a pressure cooker as well. ....
