Workers Struggles: Asia, Australia and New Zealand 16 July 2021 India: Punjab public sector workers strike for better pay Workers from several Punjab state government departments stopped work for two days on July 8 in protest over the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations. The action followed demonstrations by public sector workers and doctors on June 23 and a week-long strike by the Punjab State Ministerial Services Union on June 22 over the commission’s recommendations. Mass Media Employees and Officers Association members from the Health Department’s mass media wing stopped work and demonstrated on July 8. The association complained that their demand that workers in jobs with the same educational qualification be paid the same as workers in the Public Relations Department had been ignored. ....
Delay in release of risk allowance sparks protests across all FG hospitals July 13, 2021 Islamabad: Responding to the call of the Grand Health Alliance, health workers of all federal government hospitals observed complete strike on Monday, boycotting their respective Out-Patient Departments to protest against the inordinate delay in release of the special health allowance announced by the government almost a year ago when the Covid-19 pandemic infiltrated into Pakistan. However, the healthcare workers complained that the ministry wanted to pay the allowance to selected employees despite the fact that all healthcare workers faced the risk of contracting the virus. Bara hospital staff goes on strike after MNA ‘insults’ doctor National May 1, 2021 BARA: The administration of the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Dogra protested against Member National Assembly (MNA) Iqbal Afridi for using abusive language against the medical superintendent and other staff members. The paramedics and doctors associations in Bara and Dogra Hospital said that MNA Iqbal Afridi visited the hospital along with dozens of PTI workers and insulted Dr Jehangir, in- charge of the hospital, and used abusive language against him. They said a case should be registered against Iqbal Afridi for violating the corona SoPs and interfering in the affairs of the government. The MNA was angry that he was not invited to inaugurate the corona vaccination centre. ....
