th to be MA School Nurse Day to honor the dedicated nurses who protect our children s health and safety by serving in Massachusetts schools.
MA School Nurse Day is a time to celebrate the specialty practice of school nursing, and comes to our state as a part of a national effort to recognize school nurses with a special day annually since 1972. Since its origin, School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurse expertise in the educational setting.

The season of sickness starts every September in Alexandria Waldron’s home, right after her three boys ages 9, 11 and 14 go back to school.
“They haven’t been around a lot of other kids,” Waldron says, “and always, two weeks later, almost exactly to the day, our first kid would get sick. Then it would spread through the family. “

Visiting a Newburyport school on Friday, Governor Charlie Baker said the pool testing program that has launched in hundreds of Massachusetts schools in recent weeks will be a key tool in bringing students back for in-person learning and building âwhatever the next normalâs going to be.â
âTo get to the point where this thing is really starting to rock and roll is a real pleasure I think for all of us who were looking to find a relatively uncomplicated way for schools to implement a weekly surveillance program,â Baker said, speaking after seeing the schoolâs pool testing program in action.
