For Molly Ford and Sarah Jesup, founders of online dining resource The Food Lens, food is the heart and soul of Boston. But the pandemic, with all its restrictions and limits on restaurants, has stifled so many of their favorite places.
In response, The Food Lens released “Dining in Boston,” their first digital cookbook with recipes directly from local chefs and restaurants. Some of the city’s best dishes make an appearance — the roast beef from Cutty’s in Brookline, the Creamy Lobster Roll from Row 34 in Fort Point. ....

Two Eastie Restaurants Featured in New Digital Cookbook – East Boston Times-Free Press


Two restaurants that have made a name for themselves outside the borders of East Boston are now featured in The Food Lens’ first digital cookbook “Dining in Boston”. 
The Food Lens, an online dining resource that helps readers discover the best food, drink, and happenings in Boston, has included a recipe each from Angela’s Cafe and Tawakal Halal Cafe in Eastie. 
The Food Lens’ founders Molly Ford and Sarah Jesup also compiled more than 38 other recipes from the area’s best chefs and restaurants in an effort to bring their readers a new way to experience local dining at home during Covid-19.  ....

A Superior Court ruling in favor of a Boston Caffe Nero location that closed during the pandemic could have positive implications for other struggling businesses
A Suffolk County, Mass. Superior Court ruled Thursday in favor of a Boston location of the London-based café chain Caffe Nero, stating that the café cannot be forced to backpay rent for the three months during the early days of the pandemic last spring when the café was shut down during the statewide lockdown. The Newbury Street location of Caffe Nero ultimately closed permanently in October after struggling even when their doors reopened, the Boston Globe reported.   ....

Massachusetts Legislature Implements Fee Caps for Third-Party Delivery Apps


The Massachusetts legislature struck a deal in the early hours of the morning on January 6 in the form of a $626 million economic development bill. The bill, which is a compromise between the House and the Senate and came together after five months of back and forth discussions between the two bodies, is meant to help stimulate the state’s flagging economy and has big implications for restaurants and third-party delivery apps.
Crucially, the bill sets up a $20 million fund to support struggling restaurants, which will be paid out in grants, though it is unclear at the moment if restaurant operators will be required to pay them back. Details surrounding the application process, including the amount of aid individual restaurants can apply for, are also unclear at the moment. ....
