Highest number of COVID patients yesterday reported from Colombo District

With the report of the 674 COVID patients yesterday (27), the total number of COVID patients reported in Sri Lanka exceeded 41,000 to 41,054.
The number of patients associated with Minuwangoda, Peliyagoda and Prisons coronavirus clusters increased to 37,360.
Among the 674 COVID patients that were identified yesterday (27), 174 patients were identified from the Colombo District, while 153 patients were identified from the Gampaha District.
Out of the patients that are identified from Gampaha are 40 inmates from the Mahara Prison and 14 inmates from the Negombo Prison.
From the Colombo District, 17,491 COVID patients were identified since 04 October, while 8,919 patients were identified from the Gampaha District within the same period. ....

COVID IN PRISONS: 3,709 CASES TO-DATE WITH 3,229 RECOVERIES

Colombo (News 1st); 54 prisoners had tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday (27), said the Department of Prisons.
50 of them are suspect inmates and 04 are resident prisoners.
A total of 3,709 COVID-19 cases were reported from prisons to-date.
3,229 of them had recovered and among the recoveries are 112 Prison Officers.
The breakdown of cases according to prisons is as follows;

COLOMBO (News 1st): Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva says he expects no further restrictions to be imposed on this Christmas.
The general public to restrict their travel plans as far as possible, bearing in mind the fast-spreading nature of the virus both at home and abroad, Army Commander reminded.
Another 580 people tested positive for the virus yesterday. These include several people who had returned to the island from overseas, he added.
Of the new cases, 228 are from Colombo, 108 from Gampaha, 68 from Kalutara, 40 from Kandy, 18 from Trincomalee, and 17 are from Matara.
Out of the new cases, 49 people from the Mahara Prison and 15 from the Negombo Prison also tested positive, he further added. ....

Colombo (News 1st); Families of the victims of the Mahara Prison Riot called on the government to ensure those responsible for the killings are penalized.
At a press conference where emotions ran high on Thursday (24), wives and mothers of the prisoners killed in the riot said their killings were unnecessary.
“My family tried their best to him on to the correct path. We even explored legal options. He was killed in vain,” said a mother about her son who imprisoned in the Mahara Prison and died in the November riot.
Another mother alleged, she was not given any details about her son for many days adding the families urging for details of their loved ones were ill-treated and chased away. ....
