There were no reported injuries. At about 7:45 a.m., Sara Douglas was driving to Marion Elementary, where she works as a teacher and a language specialist. She saw a house, at 714 E. 39th St., with smoke “pouring out of the vents and windows from what looked like the attic,” she said. Douglas pulled over and joined another passerby. They entered the house and went to the basement through a haze of light smoke. Douglas saw four children on a bed who appeared to have just woken up, unaware of the fire. ....
From Staff Reports The McDowell County Health Department said Friday that 46 additional McDowell County residents have tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19). There are 2,503 total positives in McDowell County. There have been 29,005 tests conducted, 26,139 negative results and 363 tests are pending results. At the time of Fridayâs report, there are 381 individuals in quarantine, 2,077 out of quarantine and 45 deaths, according to a news release. It also means that within one week McDowell County had 246 more positive cases. A week ago, the total number was 2,257. âThe Health Department and the Emergency Operations Center continue to notify individuals of positive or negative COVID-19 test results,â said Public Health Director Karen Powell. âIf you know that you are positive, please stay home and follow all quarantine measures. Since Nov. 11, the district has reported 216 new cases. The running total, as of Tuesday morning, is 416 cases: 31 staff members and 285 students. The district’s COVID-19 dashboard shows there are currently 62 positive cases from 47 students and 15 staff members, with Allen High School reporting the most at 15 active cases, followed by Curtis Middle School at nine, Boon Elementary and Lowery Freshman Center at seven each and Boyd Elementary at five.
