Man murdered, body buried near stream Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The Vadavalli police on Saturday apprehended a salon owner on charges of murdering a barber, who worked under him. P. Senthilkumar (38) from Sundapalayam, near Vadavalli, was held in connection with the murder of Kumar, a native of Manaparai in Tiruchi. The police said that Kumar had been working at a salon owned by Senthilkumar at Deenampalayam. He stayed with another barber from Manapparai namely Nandhakumar in a room behind a chicken stall run by Senthilkumar at Oonapalayam. According to the police, Kumar recently joined another salon for work without informing Senthilkumar. Annoyed over Kumar’s act, Senthilkumar met him at the roomon April 10 afternoon. Senthilkumar and Nandhakumar picked up a quarrel with Kumar and assaulted him. After Senthilkumar left the place, Nandakumar found that Kumar was dead. ....
Folk artistes stage a demonstration at Dindigul Collectorate on Friday. | Photo Credit: KARTHIKEYAN G The Tamil Nadu Folk Artistes Welfare Association members have demanded the State government to give them each ₹10,000 as monthly relief in view of the ban on conducting festivals in temples due to COVID-19 pandemic here on Friday. A large number of folk artistes from Manaparai, Karur and Dindigul districts, led by the association State joint general secretary Durai Santosh, submitted a memorandum to the District Collector. In their submission, they said that since last year (March), when the pandemic surfaced, the lockdown had severely affected their livelihood. The relief given by the State government was paltry and could not make our both ends meet. Thankfully, a few NGOs provided essential commodities with which the families survived. ....
Farmers stage protest in delta region Updated: Updated: Share Article Farmer staged protests in different parts of Tiruchi, Perambalur, Pudukkotai and Thanjavur districts on Saturday. A group of farmers led by P.Ayyakannu, president of Desiya Thennindiya Nathigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam, blocked the traffic at Salai Road-Sastri Road junction here. Some of them carried ploughs. They raised slogans against the Centre. The police detained 54 persons. The protest disrupted the traffic for about 45 minutes. Twenty farmers were taken into custody when they staged a road roko at Manaparai. V. Chidambaram, district secretary, Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, led the protest. Terming the farm laws anti-farmers, they urged the Centre to withdraw them immediately. ....
