Rolando Bentancourt, bounty hunter, remains fixated on Pyle’s capture, and as soon as the pandemic subsides he will travel, likely to Nicaragua, because that’s where he believes Pyle is living and darned if the accused pedophile is slipping through his fingers again. “I want to get this guy,” Bentancourt said. “It needs to be done.” Anyone remember Pyle? He’s the Sarasota resident with the prospector’s mustache who ran across the United States – yes, ran, 3,273 miles, from California to Key West – while carrying the American Flag as a way to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project in 2012. ....
It’s a line appropriate for an R-rated movie about mobsters, drugs, robberies, shootings, shine boxes and frozen dead bodies hanging from meat hooks. It’s probably not the best line for a School Board member to use on his Twitter account, especially after he just voted in favor of a new district-wide policy on civility. Judging from his account, Manatee County School Board member Charlie Kennedy was no fan of former President Trump, and on Jan. 19 he made his feelings known. Kennedy posted a photo of Trump leaving the White House with the former First Lady. They were approaching Marine One for their final departure. ....
Manatee Schools chairman alleges fraud in Lincoln Memorial Academy case Manatee County School Board Chairman Charlie Kennedy signed an affidavit last Friday alleging that the School Board relied on falsified evidence when it seized control of Lincoln Memorial Academy, a charter school in Palmetto, in 2019. Kennedy’s statement resurrects a long-simmering controversy over the legitimacy of a water bill that was used as evidence that poor fiscal management at LMA was putting children at risk. The city of Palmetto issued a water shut-off notification to the charter school in July 2019 that Lincoln supporters and Kennedy say was cooked up to make the school look mismanaged and to provide the pretext for the district’s seizing control. ....
The Manatee County School Board unanimously extended Superintendent Cynthia Saunders’ contract at a special meeting Thursday evening. The board, after more than an hour of debate and another 45 minutes of public comment, added two years to Saunders’ existing contract, which now will expire in June 2023. Her $196,000 salary will remain unchanged. “I appreciate the support of the board and the staff,” Saunders said. “The only reason we’re successful is because we all work together.” Saunders’ was awarded her current contract in 2019. The contract was due to expire June 30, 2021, but includes a clause that she be notified by the end of this year if the board intended to renew it. ....
Manatee County’s School Board will meet Thursday to decide whether to add two years to superintendent Cynthia Saunders contract. The extension, if approved, would keep Saunders in her current role until June 30, 2023. If the board fails to renew Saunders’ contract Thursday, it could try again before June. But that could be complicated, said School Board Chairman Charlie Kennedy. For one thing, if there is no extension before the end of the year, the board would have to begin the arduous process of finding a replacement for Saunders by June. And then there is the likelihood that Saunders would begin looking for employment elsewhere. ....
