11 months remain for Labella admin to complete planting 3M trees

THE administration of Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella still has 11 months to complete its project to plant three million trees in various locations in the city.
The City Government started its greening program in September 2019, and it conducted a massive tree planting on Oct. 5, 2019.
Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) head Editha Peros said there were already around one million trees planted under her office’s covered areas.
Peros, who also heads the Parks and Playground Commission, also oversees the planting of trees and ornamental plants in parks in the city.
Peros’ estimation does not include yet the trees planted under the City Adriculture Department (CAD). ....

The final aspect that was crucial to the growth of the Sunset as a distinct district was the establishment within the district of a few of the city s premier recreational and cultural institutions, including Fleishhacker Pool and the various attractions in Golden Gate Park. But perhaps most noteworthy among these institutions is Sigmund Stern Grove, located on a parcel of land along Sloat Boulevard that was donated to the city in 1931 by Rosalie Stern, widow of Sigmund Stern and President of the city Playground Commission (later renamed the Recreation Commission). ....

Perhaps in anticipation of tomorrow s anticipated snow storm, Somerset s online news publication, The Somerset Sentinel, posted a story yesterday about the Somerset Parks and Playground Commission s decision to break tradition and not turn the lights on at the popular sledding hill at Pierce Beach.
In the article, it states that Parks Director Barry Fontaine said the decision was to limit crowds at the park in the evening, although the park would be open to sledders during the day. ....
