Last year, nearly 80% of USD 309 voters rejected a $29.9 million bond issue, but today, money is still needed for big repairs.
During last week s board meeting, School Board President Dan Schweizer brought up the bond issue once again. He did not support last year s bond, saying it was too large a sum for the community.
But this time, he said, the board and the schools need to prioritize.
Schweizer said the bond needs to be much smaller and the length of time covered needs to be shorter, which would reduce interest paid. He wants to ask each principal for their top ten list of needs and prioritize those needs, saying one school might get three needs met, while another might only get one.
