March 15, 2021 By Jessica Mathews / [email protected] The Village of Pinckney is one of ten finalists in a pitch competition called Put Your Town on the Map . The competition is sponsored by Consumer s Energy and required a short pitch of a project that would create momentum that builds a stronger sense of community . Village President Rebecca Foster said she had been researching community gardens in other municipalities, and at the same time, interest in a community garden popped up on various social media forums, so everything sort of aligned. A core group of Village residents, as well as Putnam and Hamburg Township community members, held a brain-storming session that resulted in a proposal to utilize the DDA-owned vacant lot at 135 West Main Street. ....
February 23, 2021 By Michael Kruzman / [email protected] Pinckney Village Council is seeking final clarifications as they prepare to release the application for marijuana businesses in the village. Village Council dove into the most recent draft of the application and scoring rubric for marijuana establishments, Monday night. The application period is scheduled to open up on April 1st. In order to qualify for scoring, applicants will need to submit a $5,000 non-refundable check and have a valid special use permit granted by the village. The proposed facility will also have to fall within applicable zoning without the need for rezoning or a variance, on property they have a legal interest in. Each applicant will be graded on a 95-point scale that includes checkmarks for having appropriate licenses, business and safety plans, and their commitment to the community. The Village Clerk will do the scoring. Council discussed setting up a workshop ....

The property houses the old, vacant Pinckney Elementary School but Howell Developer Chris Bonk is seeking to repurpose the existing building on site for potential Marijuana establishments. A proposed rendering is pictured. He has to rezone the property first in order to pursue any type of marijuana-related license through the Village. Since it is a conditional rezoning, if the project doesnât come to fruition or a license isnât obtained ....
December 18, 2020 By Jessica Mathews / [email protected] The pay for the Pinckney Village president position garnered lengthy debate during Monday nightâs virtual Council meeting. Council approved $13,600 in the budget line item for president compensation. However, the Budget Committee later proposed half of that â prompting President Rebecca Foster to question why the numbers shrunk from what was originally approved in the budget. Councilwoman Linda Lavey commented there was lengthy discussion and lots of factors considered. She said there was intended to be wiggle room for salary and the idea of having a president-manager but that was shot down by the attorney because the roles legally cannot be confused. ....
