Improved funding means more wastewater projects getting built on Cape Cod

ORLEANS A bright red crane stood out against a nearly cloudless blue spring sky, hoisting blocks of scaffolding from the site’s access road into a massive concrete foundation. The scaffolding was part of a temporary support system for the pouring of the slab of the first floor of Orleans’ new $38.1 million wastewater treatment plant, which is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2022. For the past two years, Orleans streets also bustled with crews installing the pipes for the $21.4 million downtown sewer collection system. This is a moment capping over two decades of contentious debate in Orleans, and one that Alan McClennen, a former longtime Orleans select board member, could scarcely have believed possible just a few years ago when the cost of the town’s wastewater cleanup plan seemed insurmountable.

letters to the editor the cape codder orleans mass

On May 25 I will enthusiastically vote for Bill Henchy for Brewster Planning Board. I’ve had the honor of meeting Bill and understanding his deep commitment to the town’s people and character. I bought my home nearly 19 years ago. I chose Brewster for its enchanting country feel and “Olde Cape charm.” At the time I was a civil engineer pursuing a degree in interior design. Thankfully at that young adult age I had the experience to recognize the unique qualities Brewster offered without the additional distance from the bridges. I understood that I could easily change my house but not my location once the investment was made.

Brewster Files Lawsuit Against Eversource Over Herbicide Spraying

By WXTK News Apr 14, 2021 The Brewster Select Board says it will file a lawsuit to stop Eversource from using herbicide under its power lines. The board says it has actively opposed the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources granting permission to Eversource for the vegetation management since 2015, but the town has not yet been subject to the activity. That is scheduled to change this year, and the Select Board says it will file the litigation against the state agency. Environmentalists have asked the power company to stop the herbicide application on the Cape over concerns about its effect on the water supply.
