Two arrested in P.A. drug raid appear in court; one released, one remanded in custody

Kyle Crain, 29, was released after a Feb. 19 court appearance.
The Prince Albert Police Street Enforcement Team arrested the two Feb. 4 after executing a search warrant at a residence in the 600 block of 7 Street East.
When police searched the home they found 45 grams of crack cocaine, more than 120 grams of meth and about eight grams of Psilocybin. They also found $7,000 in cash, a loaded shotgun and ammunition, brass knuckles, a Tazer and bear spray.
Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) helped police in the investigation. SCAN units have tremendous power when investigating drug complaints. They can issue warnings, pursue the landlords and ask a court to issue a Community Safety Order to board up a property for 90 days. ....

By law, the judge also considered Gladue factors when sentencing Ackegan. According to Canada’s Criminal Code, it is the duty of judges to clearly address an aboriginal offender’s circumstances, and the systemic and background factors that contributed to those circumstances.
