Stockbrokers amend rules to strengthen corporate governance

Lagos, April 29, 2021 The Council of Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has endorsed amendments to four rules to strengthen its corporate governance.
Mr Olatunde Amolegbe, the instituteâs President, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.
Amolegbe said that the rules, which were unanimously approved during the Instituteâs hybrid AGM, include CIS Membership Rules and Regulations, 2021 and CIS Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct for Stockbrokers, 2021.
Others are, Rules for election into the Governing Council of the Institute 2020, and 2019 Rules for election of the 2nd Vice President of the Institute. ....

Insecurity: Things Are Getting From Bad To Worse – Lawmaker

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Army, Honourable Abdulrazak Namdas has lamented the deteriorating state of insecurity in the country, saying things are getting worse.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s
Politics Today, Namdas lamented the inadequate personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies.
“I agree that things are getting from bad to worse but let us sit together and re-strategize and see how we can solve the problem,” he said.
Worried by the worsening security situation, the lower chamber had on March 17 set up a special committee to come up with solutions to the security challenges in the country. ....

Abuja, April 26, 2021 President Muhammadu Buhari has met behind closed door with the Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
Naija247news gathered that the meeting was part of the ongoing strategic engagements of the president with relevant stakeholders aimed at finding solutions to the nation’s security and socio-economic challenges.
Speaking to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting with the president, Gbajabiamila reiterated the commitment of the National Assembly to continue to assist President Buhari as “he works hard to find a lasting solution to the present security challenges confronting the nation.’’ ....

The leadership of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), has called on the National Assembly to ensure an expeditious passage of the Bill for the review of the Colleges of Education Act pending before the National Assembly.
