Southern California native, Brigitte DeMeyer has been steadily releasing albums every few years for twenty years now and her latest, Seeker is a collection of ten songs showcasing her unique soulful, jazz meets blues vocal style along with exceptional songwriting and sparse, groove-filled arrangements. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix of The Wood Brothers, Seeker is a laid back, swampy and spicy joy to get lost in. Bassist Chris Wood said, “It’s Bob Dylan meets Sly Stone.” I would say spot on with a dash of Rickie Lee Jones too! AnaLee: You wrote most of the record with your producer, Jano Rix, I believe pre-pandemic, was that here in Nashville? It had to have been a bit frustrating waiting to release the album, but now that it’s been out for a couple of months and enjoying time in the top twenty of the Americana Album Chart, how are you feeling about the release and what the rest of 2021 looks like now? ....
Muddy Bottom Blues Program #245 (May 21 at 8:00pm and May 22 at 3:00pm) With Patty Griffin, the Allman Brothers, Carole King, and Mavis Staples among her many influences, Brigitte DeMeyer draws on roots rock, classic pop songcraft, and more for her diverse Americana. After beginning her career playing in bands in her hometown of San Diego, California during the mid- 80s, she released her first solo album, Another Thousand Miles, in 2000. Her sixth LP, 2014 s Savannah Road, was inspired by reading Gregg Allman s 2012 memoir, and she teamed up with frequent collaborator Will Kimbrough for the duet album Mockingbird Soul in 2017. Born in Michigan and raised in Point Loma, San Diego, DeMeyer grew up singing in gospel choirs. She graduated from Point Loma High School, then attended the University of San Diego, where she earned a degree in international relations in 1986. While there, she met San Diego music scene staple Steve Poltz, whom she credits as a mentor along wi ....

New Orleans on Louisiana, the latest release from her forthcoming album Seeker (out March 26), produced by Jano Rix of The Wood Brothers. New Orleans, Louisiana. A mystic of cities. Every time I m there a vibe follows me around like a ghost. Food tastes better. Music sounds better. I think I even sing better when I play there, or, am so lit up by the energy there I don t care, so I actually do, Meyer tells Wide Open Country. The air is heavy, and there s a flavor to everything. The streets are spooky, romantic, chipped and patina-ed. Little boys in derby hats with bottle caps attached to their shoes, tap dancing for tips, look at you like they are 100 years wiser than you ll ever be. Second line parades waft in the mix, beignets that make you moan, street art, Cajun spices and accents, fortune tellers, and a belief in mojo, good and bad so strong it s a religion. All that spells New Orleans, Louisiana, to me. The song Louisiana, is about a state of min ....
Having spent years as a working musician, residing in Nashville was a good thing for Brigitte DeMeyer. Becoming a part of Music City’s vibrant community of artists and industry folks kept her busy, as she carved out her place living and working there, all while raising her young son. Originally from California, she commuted to Nashville for years; relocating full time was a leap of faith one that paid off. And, while the work has been rewarding, the greatest rewards for the artist are the friendships and partnerships she maintains there. When an urgent need to move back to California came suddenly for her family, DeMeyer had to go. But her spirit keeps deep roots in the South. ....
