EXETER - On Thursday, July 8, Oliver Wood (of Wood Brothers fame) will take the stage for two shows (5 p.m. and 8 p.m.) within the Word Barn Meadow over in Exeter. Oliver is taking to the road in support of his brand new solo debut, “Always Smilin’.” EDGE caught up with Oliver to discuss his new record, life during a pandemic, learning to appreciate the moment, being present, practicing smiling more, the art of collaboration, and, the percussive properties of a chicken coop (among many other things). EDGE: Let’s talk about the latest record, “Always Smilin’.” Your solo debut. I have no doubt you’ve been penning tunes for yourself for the entirety of your life, but, what led you to decide to put out a solo record? Why now? What were your goals for it? ....
It’s been a long 15 months for one of Rochester’s largest music venues. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, “My employees lost their jobs, and I was out of work,” said Peter Sewell, owner of Water Street Music Hall and The Club at Water Street, which operate side by side under one roof at 204 N. Water St. “But for me, it was the mental anguish of not being active and being able to see people. That was worse than the financial part.” He s feeling more optimistic now, having booked a lineup of post-pandemic shows, the first of which happens next month. ....
