Rhode Island AG investigating death of man handcuffed by Police

Rhode Island authorities are investigating the case of a man who died after being handcuffed by police in Providence.Officers were called at around 12:30 a.m. Friday on a report of a man who was screaming in the street and possibly under the influence of narcotics, according to an account by Providence police. They found him groaning unintelligibly as he rolled on the ground next to a ballfield.The officers called for an ambulance from the Providence Fire Department and spent more than 10 minutes trying to talk to the man and calm him down, but he did not answer questions or follow commands. Then the officers had what police described as a “minor struggle” with the man as they handcuffed him to protect rescue workers. Body cam video released by Providence police shows that the officers eventually held the man down on his stomach for about 90 seconds while cuffing his hands behind his back. Providence, Rhode Island, police released body camera video after a man who was handcuffed by officers died.
The footage is from one of several officers who responded to a call around 12:30 a.m. ET Friday about a man, identified as Joseph Ventre, 34, screaming in the middle of the street.
When the video begins, Ventre is heard yelling. Two other officers are already on the scene.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Providence Police released body cam footage from an early morning arrest of a man possibly on drugs who later died.
Police responded to a report of a man screaming in the middle of Collyer St. in Providence while “possibly on drugs” at around 12:30 Friday morning, according to a report.
Upon arrival officers saw 34-year-old Joseph Ventre yelling and screaming in a grassy field.
When officers tried to talk to Ventre and ask him questions he paced back and forth and also rolled in the dirt. He also didn’t respond to any of their questions. ....
