A St. Louis literacy organization wants to help improve third-grade reading proficiency rates in high-poverty areas and to give children access to reading tools this summer.
Turn the Page STL is teaming up with libraries, institutions and recreational centers to provide access to books, virtual learning, games and other activities to keep children in high-poverty areas reading during the summer. Flying on Mars

There has been a lot in the news recently about NASA’s Perseverance rover and its recent landing on Mars. The early photos have been outstanding. But there has not been much said yet about its big connection to San Diego.
Qualcomm collaborated with NASA’s JPL on robotics technology that will be powering an experimental drone that will soon attempt the first powered flight on another planet. Called Ingenuity, it is a technology experiment that came to Mars as a passenger on Perseverance. The “helicopter” weighs about four pounds on earth and has a fuselage about the size of a tissue box, according to NASA. Qualcomm’s robotics solutions helped to overcome space navigation challenges, such as adapting to Mars’ atmospheric conditions. ....

U.S. DOT announces FY 2021 round of the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant program

$30.5 billion in Federal Funding for nation’s transit systems announced today.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) [yesterday] announced it is seeking applicants for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 round of the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) discretionary grant program.
INFRA grants will fund transportation projects of national and regional significance that are in line with the Biden Administration’s priorities including creating good-paying jobs, improving safety, applying transformative technology, and explicitly addressing climate change and racial equity. The funding available for this year’s grants totals approximately $889 million.
The Department recognizes the role that infrastructure investment plays in economic development and job creation, and the added urgency of this funding at time when the COVID-19 pandemic has put stress on state and local budgets. ....
